Chitral is well known for the variety of its wildlife such as snow leopard, Markhor, ibex, brown bear, lynx, wolf, fox, rabbits, jackals, porcupines, hawks, a large number of bird varieties, vultures, kites, eagles, magpies, flying fox, chakor, ram chakor, snow cock, reptiles. Hawks and falcons are trapped under license and carried out of the district for export to UAE and the biggest ones among the Markhor population are reserved for trophy hunting at high payment with a lion’s share for the community.
